New
School Website and the Handbook – Please read!
We are
quickly approaching the launch of our new school website. The
newest format features a number of pictures of our students and
campus life. We just wanted to remind all parents regarding the
wording in the handbook and student photographs.
(from SJS
Handbook) "Occasionally, photographs of students and school
activities are used for promotional purposes, yearbook, and as items
for bidding at the auction. If a parent does not want his/her
student’s photograph to be made public in ways such as these, a
written statement must be sent to the office by the end of the first
week of school."
Please
keep in mind that the website WILL NOT include student names. To
keep our website current, we will be rotating pictures throughout
the year. If you have any questions, please contact Ann Shikany at
ashikany@sjsissaquah.org.

HIGH 5'S
Robotics is going to State
Saturday,
December 3 the St. Joseph robotics teams attended the South Seattle
Regional of the FIRST Lego League competition. It was a great
opportunity for the students to demonstrate what they had learned
about robotics and food safety in their community. This year we had
two teams from St. Joseph with Jamie K. and Tina K., both 7th
graders representing the Got Tech team and Colleen S., Noah H., 7th
graders and Justin D., a 6th grader representing the Stuffed Lego
Pandas. Each team had an opportunity to present what they had
learned about food safety and to give a technical presentation on
their robot to a panel of judges. Both teams did well in the robot
challenge portion of the competition finishing in the middle of the
group of 25 teams. At the end of the day the Got Tech team received
the award for Robot Mechanical Design and not to be out done, the
Stuffed Lego Pandas brought home the award for Overall Robot Design
advancing them to the State competition in January. In the true
spirit of FIRST Gracious Professionalism, the Stuffed Lego Pandas
have invited several members of the Get Tech team to go with them to
the state competition. Congratulations!
Bishop Blanchet
Invitation Middle School Speech Tournament
Saturday,
December 10, St Joseph’s Speech Team competed at the Bishop Blanchet
Invitation Middle School Speech Tournament. It was the first time
ever for our school to compete at a speech tournament. We had 14
sixth and seventh grade speech students from Mrs. Olson’s speech
team compete in acting and public speaking events. All of the
students worked very hard prior to the tournament and their
dedication really paid off. Sean S., a 7th grader placed in the top
six in the Impromptu category, Sam G. and Alexander S., also 7th
graders placed in the top six in the Duo category, and Sean S. and
Paul R., 7th graders received first place in Duo. There were over
300 students from the Archdiocese of Seattle who competed in the
tournament. Congratulations to all of the students who represented
our school at the tournament. A big thank you also to the parents
of our speech team and students who supported them in preparation
for and during the tournament. Way to go St. Joes!
If your child or child's team has an
outstanding success or achievement, we would like to
acknowledge them in the E-News.
